Planning Your Wedding

Planning the photographs for your wedding doesn’t have to be complicated. Through my years of experience in photographing weddings, I have fine tuned timing during and around the ceremony and reception. I am happy to share all of my experience with you to help make your special day as fun as possible. In addition to the photography, we're also happy to help with any other planning that you'd like.

To help you in this process, I've created a wedding planning form that you can download and fill out. The first half is a general planning form which we can use together to make sure that you will not feel rushed on a day that is meant to be fully experienced and savored. The second half is for planning the formal portraiture and will aid me in making that process go as smoothly and quickly as possible. While many couples will make timelines on their own or with wedding planners, I cannot recommend strongly enough that we sit down together to plan out the timeline for your wedding day. There are many variables in a wedding, but the combination of you, myself and the caterer are the three most important and highly variable ingredients. By planning together, we can assure that your wedding will go smoothly and that I can capture perfectly every special moment of this most important day.

When photographing your wedding, there are three styles of images I try to capture. First is the photojournalistic coverage of your entire wedding. These are the natural images of moments throughout the day, from getting ready to your first kiss to cake cutting and finally your getaway. Second are the formal portraits. These are usually done in one block before or after the ceremony. This is the time when you and your family come together to capture beautiful images of everyone on both sides of the family, as well as images of your bridal party. The third style is what I like to call contemporary romantic images. These are portraits primarily of the bride and groom which are posed, but not in the formal sense. Contemporary romantic portraits are those that show loving connection and intimacy in fun and creative settings. Each of these three styles of coverage requires its own time to fulfill during the wedding day, and it's important that everything is planned out so that nothing is omitted, none of us feel rushed, and you are truly able to relax and enjoy the day. Trust me - your photographs will look much better if you're relaxed. Most brides these days will opt to have the romantic portraits taken before the ceremony when they have the most time and their makeup is fresh.

If there are any special photographs you'd like taken, please do not hesitate to ask. The more I know ahead of time, the better I can plan and help your wedding to flow smoothly. If during your wedding planning you see any particular images in the wedding magazines (or elsewhere) that you feel are especially romantic, don't hesitate to show them to me. These can serve as an inspiration for images that we can take on your wedding day.
