The resume
Mischa is from Redwood City and started in photography at age 9 with a mentorship under photography professor Neil White. He processed his first black and white film by hand and printed his first images in a darkroom.
In college, Mischa continued to pursue this passion with a BA in Art/Photography from UCSC, learning all about photography, technically and conceptually, using traditional film and paper.
Mischa’s introduction to the wedding industry was as a DJ (his side carrer during college). He officially switched from wedding DJ to full time wedding photographer in 2003. His couples started having babies and pretty soon Mischa started photographing people in all forms from adorable newborns to professional headshots. In 2015 Mischa expanded into underwater photography.
Mischa served as past President of PPGBA. (Professional Photographers of the Greater Bay Area) This group of professional peers as well as PPA (Professional Photographers of America) have selected him to teach many seminars and classes for their members over the years. Mischa also served as Vice President of the Sacramento chapter of NACE (National Association for Catering and Events). Mischa continues to be active in a number of industry associations.
Mischa is a photography and Photoshop expert; artistically and technically. Known especially for his "hero images". Single, “show-stoppers” usually made entirely in-camera, but often using off-camera flash or painting with light to create something amazing. He's adept at coaching and interacting with people to allow for strong images that are often much more crafted and posed than they appear or then they feel as the subject while being photographed. He’s also equally good at capturing truly candid moments as they unfold.
Mischa has earned many awards and honors, including “album designer of the year” 5 times and “wedding photographer of the year " 3 times. He has also won numerous awards for individual images including “Image of the year“.
The Technical Details:
Mischa shoots with a combination of medium format using the amazing Fujifilm GFX 16bit 100 megapixel marvel and the more versatile and also amazing full frame Canon mirrorless cameras with a full suite of professional lenses and a variety of off camera lighting systems when needed. While he was trained in film and still has all the cameras, the film emulation of the medium format Fujifilm has made actually using film obsolete (not to mention the fact it has to be scanned to be printed now).
